Circassia Announces the Appointment of Guy Layton as Director of Alloimmune Projects

Circassia Ltd, a specialty biopharmaceutical company focused on controlling immune system responses, today announced the appointment of experienced R&D scientist Dr Guy Layton as Director of Alloimmune Projects. "Following the acquisition of the novel ToleroTrans anti-rejection technology for use in organ transplantation, we are delighted that Guy is joining the team at Circassia to run the projects associated with this technology," said Steve Harris, CEO of Circassia. "Guy's experience in Immunology and in taking both diagnostic and therapeutic products into clinical development is ideally suited to the exploitation of the ToleroTrans technology.  His previous outsourcing experience in drug development also aligns well with our operational model."

After training originally in Biomedical Sciences and Immunology, Guy joined ICI Pharmaceuticals in 1982 and then held positions in Biotech Australia and oncology specialty start up Medical Innovations in Australia before returning to the UK as Head of Immunology at British Biotech in Oxford.  After holding various positions at British Biotech, including Director of Immunotherapeutics, Head of Inflammation and Head of Experimental Medicine and Biomarkers, Guy joined OSI Pharmaceuticals, as Head of the New Opportunities Group also taking on responsibility for Business Development for Europe.  After leaving OSI, Guy helped to establish another start up company, Surface Therapeutics, as VP of R&D, developing novel therapies for treating allergic diseases, primarily Atopic Dermatitis and when Surface Therapeutics was acquired by Cambridge UK- based company Serentis, Guy was appointed as Director of New Opportunities in 2007.
